Be inspired to face life with a smile and stay strong at heart when you are wearing this handmade wooden rhino pendant. This valiant rhino makes a caring gift for someone who is facing a life challenge.
I carve the wooden rhino from salvaged koa, a revered tree native to Hawaii. Traditionally used for canoe hulls and weapons because of its impressive strength, koa means "warrior."
Beaming from the front of the pendant is a big heart carved from paduk wood. I use pyrography (woodburning) to give each rhino its cheerful expression and to inscribe the "Strong at Heart" motto on the back. The pendant is sealed with a satin lacquer so you can wear it on all of your adventures.
I handcraft every rhino pendant individually, so please expect slight variances in color and details. Each one will have its own personality.
The pendant comes threaded on a soft, waxed dacron cord (brown). The sliding knots in the cord allow you to adjust the length of the necklace anywhere between 18" and 30".
Your necklace is packaged in a white cardboard jewelry box tied with twine, mailed via First Class in a padded envelope. I include a label inside the jewelry box describing the history and signficance of the Koa wood.
A "Matimba and Louis" magnetic print is included with your order. Matimba is a brave, orphaned baby rhino rescued in South Africa; his name means "power." I donate 20% of the proceeds from this item to the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre which rescued Matimba.
